Eye operations were performed in southern African country of Ghana after Benin and Togo. In the Ghanaian city of Wa, 281 people were brought to the light. Another 5,000 people underwent eye examination and thousands were given spectacles and medication. Ghana was the third African country the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation performed cataract operations. As a part of the cataract campaign, which targets to reach 100,000 people in a year’s period, 281 people were brought out of the dark in Ghana. The successful eye operations performed by an 18-person medic group delighted Ghanaians. The third stop: Ghana Preliminary studies in Ghana started on May 10. It took two weeks to ascertain cataract victims. Ghanaians who heard that cataract operations would be performed formed long queues in front of the hospital. Those who would be operated on were singled out after a wide-ranging health screening in the city of Wa. On the first day of the operations, 100 people were brought to the light. Another 60 were operated on, while 1,500 patients were given spectacles and medication on the second day. In Wa, 3,500 people underwent eye examination. Out of those 121 patients were prescribed eye operation and later all underwent successful operations. 5,000 examined on Totally 281 people were brought to the light and 5,000 underwent eye examination in Ghana. Those who were not operated on were given spectacles or medication depending on their problem. Apart from operations and health screenings, needy people in the region were also helped. After the completion of operations, IHH officials visited orphanages and donated financial aid to meet expenditure of orphans. IHH officials purchased a motorcycle and presented it to a family which was experiencing difficulty to maintain a living.
